directAnswer: "Nomos and QuoteWell are both human wholesale brokerages supported by technology, so this isn't a choice between a broker and a marketplace. QuoteWell may fit when the account belongs in one of its published product or industry practices, especially if the exact risk qualifies for a delegated quote-and-bind lane. Nomos may fit when you want one person to review the file you already have before choosing a product or market route. Ask whether the account will be handled through delegated authority or open-market brokerage, what information must be completed, and who makes each underwriting decision."
nomosFit:
  - "You want one person to review the existing or incomplete file before selecting a transaction lane."
  - "The account needs appetite interpretation before it can be reduced to a product workflow."
  - "You want to begin with the submission already assembled, understanding that more information may still be required."
  - "Nomos can identify a credible wholesale direction for the specific account."
alternativeFit:
  - "The account clearly belongs in a QuoteWell product or industry practice and the relevant team is available."
  - "A supported risk qualifies for QuoteWell's delegated quote-and-bind route."
  - "You want a brokerage that publicly emphasizes structured ACORD submissions, workflow automation and submission visibility."
  - "You already work effectively with a QuoteWell broker and understand which placement lane will handle the risk."

  - label: "Instant result"
nomos: "An appetite review is not an insurer quote or bindable offer."
alternative: "QuoteWell announced instant quote-and-bind connectivity in 2023, but current eligibility and available outcomes must be confirmed for the exact risk."
  - label: "Technology's role"
nomos: "Technology supports the one person doing the brokerage work; it does not replace the insurer's underwriting decision."

alternative: "Confirm which work stays with the QuoteWell broker, delegated facility, insurer or retail agency after binding."

  - "What product, class, state, limit and account characteristics make that route available today?"

  - "Is the next result an appetite indication, referral, insurer quote or bindable offer?"
  - "Which licensed entity, insurer and broker appear on the appointment and transaction documents?"
  - "Who is responsible for underwriting, market release, binding, documents, endorsements and renewal?"

faq:
  - question: "Is QuoteWell a digital insurance marketplace?"
answer: "No. QuoteWell publicly describes itself as a technology-enabled wholesale brokerage with human experts, automation and submission visibility. Some supported placement lanes use delegated quote-and-bind authority, but that does not turn every QuoteWell submission into a marketplace transaction."
  - question: "Does every QuoteWell submission receive an instant or bindable quote?"
answer: "No conclusion like that follows from QuoteWell's public information. It publishes delegated authority for particular lanes and previously announced instant-quoting connectivity, but the actual result depends on current product, class, state, limits and underwriting rules."
  - question: "When may Nomos be the clearer starting point?"
answer: "Nomos may be clearer when you want one person to review the file already assembled before choosing a product or placement route. That review does not guarantee current appetite, insurer access, quote terms, binding authority or placement."

## QuoteWell is a brokerage with more than one transaction path

QuoteWell [describes itself as a technology-enabled wholesale insurance brokerage](https://quotewell.com/), not a digital marketplace. Its “Human+” model deliberately combines brokers and support staff with workflow software. Nomos also combines brokerage judgment with technology. Treating either company as the human option and the other as the software option would miss the actual choice.

The useful distinction is inside the transaction. QuoteWell's [current solutions overview](https://quotewell.com/solutions/) presents Builder's Risk, Casualty, Environmental, Property and Small Business routes. Its [Small Business page](https://quotewell.com/solutions/small-business-insurance/) specifically says that offering uses delegated authority and has direct binding capabilities across multiple carriers. That may be a meaningful advantage when the exact account qualifies, but it does not establish delegated authority for every QuoteWell placement.

## Delegated placement and open-market brokerage are different

Delegated authority lets an authorized intermediary make defined underwriting or binding decisions within an insurer's rules. Open-market brokerage sends the account to an insurer or authorized market for a decision. A company can do both, but a retail agent still needs to know which lane this file enters.

QuoteWell [announced instant quoting through Herald in 2023](https://quotewell.com/company-news/quotewell-launches-instant-quoting-powered-by-herald/). That announcement establishes a technology capability at a point in time; it does not prove that a current submission is instantly quotable. Product availability, class, state, limits and current underwriting rules determine whether a delegated or instant result is actually possible.

Nomos does not publicly position itself as a universal instant-quote or delegated-authority product. Its [opening promise](https://nomos-insurance.com/) is direct review of the file the retail agent already has. That may be the more useful first move when the account needs interpretation before it fits a transaction lane. It may be unnecessary when a clean small-business risk already matches a QuoteWell delegated workflow.

## The intake expectations differ

QuoteWell's [submission guidance](https://quotewell.com/blog/quality-submissions/) asks for a complete ACORD 125 on every submission, line-specific ACORDs for general liability, property and excess, a detailed business description and loss history. That gives the agent a concrete preparation standard and may reduce clarification once a supported route is chosen.

Nomos invites the retail agent to send the existing file first, including an incomplete one, so one person can review it and identify what's missing. That reduces the work required before the first appetite conversation; it does not mean the insurer will never require a complete application, supplemental or updated loss information.

No model fits every account. Compare how much is known about the account today, whether a delegated route is actually available, and whether the first useful action is structured entry or human interpretation.

## Keep the legal entity and technology product separate

QuoteWell's current footer identifies [QuoteWell Insurance Services, LLC](https://quotewell.com/licenses/), NPN 20585132, as the entity offering insurance products. Use the legal names and roles shown on the live appointment, quote and policy documents rather than treating the QuoteWell brand as the insurer.

For either wholesaler, identify the proposed insurer, the party with underwriting or binding authority, when the file is released, and who handles servicing after placement. Those transaction facts matter more than which company uses more technology in its marketing.
